Matt Willis was left emotional as he reunited with his therapist he met in rehab 14 years ago as he visited The Providence clinic in Bournemouth during his powerful BBC documentary on Wednesday.

The 40 year old, who is now five years sober, allowed cameras inside his life with his presenter wife, Emma Willis, 47, as they discussed his almost-lifelong battle with drugs and alcohol, and how it has affected them as individuals and as a couple. The documentary, named Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction, saw both Matt and Emma break down as they reflected on the past.

During the hour-long programme, Matt explained how just days before his wedding to Emma in 2008, he had been receiving treatment at the clinic, and in an especially poignant moment made a return to the clinic to reconnect with the staff.

Greeted with open arms by his former therapist, Matt could hardly contain his emotion as he warmly embraced the man that had helped to give him his life back, before the duo sat down for a chat about the experience. “I had a relapse about five years go,” admitted Matt as the pair began their discussion. “It kind of shook me.” “You know, kind of took me by surprise a little bit.” His therapist Steve, then asked: “Did that last long?” To which Matt soon admitted it had lasted around four months in total as he explained what had lead to that moment of weakness.
