Major emergency response in Glasgow as police swarm on scene of serious road incident

A major emergency response is in place in Glasgow this evening, with at least 20 police officers reportedly on the scene in Govanhill.Calder Street, Allison Street, and Cathcart Road in the south of the city have been closed to traffic since around 6pm, following the serious road traffic incident.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live that at least 20 police officers are on the scene as well as eight police cars, six police motorcycles, three ambulances, an incident response unit, and at least one fire engine.

He described it as "the biggest emergency response" he has ever seen in the city. Members of the public have been urged to avoid the area.A police cordon has been put in place, with a spokesperson confirming officers are currently attending a crash.A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Road closures are in place following a road traffic collision around 6pm in the Calder Street area of Glasgow."Roads currently closed are Calder Street, Allison Street and Cathcart Road.

Officers are in attendance and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.”A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council said: "Calder Street closed to all traffic between Hollybrook Street and Aikenhead Road due to a serious road traffic accident."Police and emergency services in attendance.
