Four decades after their last single was released, the iconic band Joy Division continues to have a significant influence. Now, a new event is set to celebrate the Cheshire hometown of lead singer Ian Curtis, who tragically died in 1980 at the age of 23.
The first-ever Joy Division Day in Macclesfield will take place on September 7. The day's events will include two tours (10.30am/2.30pm) led by guide and Curtis expert Trevor Stokes, featuring a visit to Curtis's grave at Macclesfield Crematorium, reports Cheshire Live. when I found what he was doing I just started screaming' The tours will conclude at Proper Sound, a record store and cafe boasting a collection of Joy Division memorabilia.
In the evening, top Joy Division tribute band, Transmission, will perform at Cinemac, a former Sunday School now serving as a heritage site.
