Lori Petty, Bobby Moynihan Join CBS’ ‘NCIS: Origins’ Spinoff Series

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan have been added to the cast of CBS’ upcoming “NCIS” prequel series “NCIS: Origins.” The thesps will join a cast that also features Austin Stowell, Kyle Schmid, Tyla Abercrumbie, Michael Molino, Diany Rodriguez and Caleb Foote, with Mark Harmon serving as narrator.

In the series, Petty will play Dr. Lenora Friedman, “a seasoned pathologist at the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office. As comfortable around the dead she is the living, her passion for the job is infectious.” And Moynihan joins as Woodrow “Woody” Browne, “the wildly overworked senior chemist and director of the NIS Forensic Lab, who compensates for his lack of sleep with an offbeat sense of humor.” “NCIS: Origins” began production this past Monday; the show premieres on Monday, Oct.

14 at 9 p.m. ET. The series revolves around young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Stowell, playing the role made famous by Harmon) in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS. “In the series, Gibbs starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Schmid).” Petty most recently appeared in HBO Max’s “Station Eleven.” She also recurred in Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black,” Bill Burr’s sketch comedy series “Immoral Compass,” Netflix’s comedy “Obliterated,” Pop TV’s “Swedish Dicks” and Fox’s “Gotham.” She’s next in the indie film “Tonic.” Petty’s credits also include “Point Break,” “A League of Their Own,” “Tank Girl,” “Free Willy” and “Poetic Justice.” On stage, she recently directed the play “Trial” at The American Theatre of Actors.
