Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards has announced that she's gearing up for a huge career change as she is set to direct a new imagining of the theatre show Hairspray: The Musical. The TV star and singer, who recently opened up on her "mum guilt" over working away so much, shared the news during the latest edition of the ITV lunchtime programme, on Tuesday 3rd October.

Revealing her excitement to the rest of the panel, Brenda, 54, explained that she was ready for a change after playing the role of Motormouth Maybelle for three previous tours of the production. "I am excited because I've been offered by the producers of Hairspray my debut director role to direct Hairspray: The musical next year," the star shared. "I've played the role of Motormouth for like five years in this particular production and it was very overwhelming to be asked. "At the time, when they asked me I thought about it and, at the end of the day, I am a product of an open audition so I suggested to them that I wanted to conduct open auditions to give opportunities and chances to people who might not necessarily have them." Brenda went on.The star admitted that despite being "thrilled" to take on the role of director, she has experienced "imposter syndrome" over the opportunity.

Brenda will be joined by Paul Kerryson in directing Hairspray for its UK and Ireland tour next year. Previously speaking about her new role in a press release, the star explained she was over the moon to be headed in a new direction in her career. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be invited by the producers to make my directorial debut on the show as a co-director with Paul Kerryson," she said.
