Law and District athletes meet Olympic legend as part of successful month

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club have had some great successes in various events around the country recently – with some members rubbing shoulders with Olympic legend Carl Lewis.A number of athletes took part in the British Cross Challenge in Liverpool, where medals were presented by the American track and field star Carl Lewis, who is a nine-time Olympic champion.Youngsters Jessica and Olivia Inglis even managed to grab a snap with the 62-year-old after the event.First up in the races at Liverpool was U11 Helena Wotherspoon, who finished 28th and first Scot home.In the U13 boys’ race, Alexander Wotherspoon was fourth Scot and 21st overall.U15 Olivia Inglis was seventh Scot, and U17 Jessica Inglis finished eighth overall and first Scot.Young runners took part in the Springburn Harriers Junior Cross Country.

U13 girls Allyssa Bennet and Layla Kirk did well, and there were good performances from James Bennet, Jude Beattie, and Harrison and Joshua Weir.Meanwhile, V45 Darran Muir was selected to represent Scotland at the British and Irish Masters Cross Country Championships at Tollcross, where he finished 23rd V45 and 74th overall in the 8km event, winning silver team medal.Three seniors took part in the Newton Road Runners 10k, with first place for Ross Macdonald, 2nd V40 and a personal best (PB) for Lesley Graham, plus a PB for Grant Kerr.Grant MacKenzie made his ultra debut in the John Muir Way Nocturnal Race, where he completed nine laps over five hours, for a distance of just over 31 miles.Mackenzie also finished eighth in the Glasgow Mo 10k in 36.47 minutes, shortly after the ultra debut.Elsewhere, the club’s youngsters took part in the first cross country match of the West District League in Kilmarnock.Results
