Lanarkshire veteran's fundraising efforts recognised in Scottish Parliament

An ex-soldier who was told he would never walk again but climbed a mountain to raise money for charity is being recognised by the Scottish Parliament.Strathaven man Andy McIntosh, who is chairman of Armed Forces charity SSAFA Lanarkshire and an ex-soldier of Cheshire Regiment, reached the 1512ft summit of Ben A’an in just under two hours raising more than £1500.Given that the average ascent is two hours, he made good time – in fact, he made incredible time because Andy was told that injuries sustained during his service meant he would never walk again.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

And a new supporter of veteran Andy is Meghan Gallacher, MSP for the Central Scotland region.Such is her support that she has submitted a motion to Holyrood recognising Andy for his efforts.Her motion – which will be circulated to all MSPs for them to add their support – reads: “That the Parliament congratulates former Lanarkshire Soldier, Andy McIntosh, for scaling all 1,512ft of Ben A’an in just under two hours; notes that the 49-year-old Veteran was told that he would never walk again after sustaining life changing injuries during his service,
