Lanark ASC take impressive medals haul from popular Irvine meet

Lanark Amateur Swimming Club won 22 medals from the first North Ayrshire 200 Meet to be held in three years.The popular event, held at The Portal in Irvine, saw the club triumph with 15 gold, five silver and two bronze medals from the events, which were all held over 200m, with swimmers categorised as their age on the day.Evi Mackie broke two records, the North Ayrshire 200 breaststroke and a Lanark club record set by Robyn Patrick nine years ago in 400m, in the ‘Open’ section.In the 11 years’ section, Emily Taylor won five golds from her five swims (fly, back, breast, free and individual medley).Team-mate Imogen Siebers was second in the fly and IM and third in the back and breaststroke.Mackie, 13, won all five of her 200m events, plus the 400m freestyle in the ‘Open’ age group events, where she finished second in the 800m freestyle and 400m IM.Her time of 5.09.08 in the 400m IM broke Robyn Patrick’s club record.Fourteen-year-olds Katie Towers and Craig Shaw also did well.Towers won three golds in back, breast and IM, and was second in 200m free.Shaw won the breaststroke and was second in IM.Abbie Barnstaple, Orlaith Jeffrey and Lucy Taylor all achieved top-six finishes.Proud coach Karen Kelly said: “Lanark swimmers were in excellent form.“Emily, Evi and Katie were the stand-out swimmers in their respective age groups.“Some of our young swimmers hadn’t swam over 200m in some strokes before, but they gave their all and came out smiling.“Our swimmers won 15 gold, five silver and two bronze medals, and set 34 new personal best marks.“Thank you, once again, to North Ayrshire for not only running this meet, but for their great hospitality shown to officials, coaches and swimmers.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@L
