Kilwinning Ladies boss David Gaw says everyone at the club is ‘buzzing’ following their promotion to SWF League One.Kilwinning finished second in the fifth-tier SWFL South table behind Ayr United Development, but they were offered promotion as league rules state development clubs can’t play above the regionalised leagues. While Gaw admits it’s not the way they’d have wanted to climb up the divisions, he said it’s a huge achievement for the club and they’re looking forward to next season’s challenge. He said: “It’s a big step up and the girls are all buzzing as is everyone behind the scenes for the challenge.

It would have been great to go up as champions but Ayr were the only team to beat us this season - we were brilliant and had a great year.“You could maybe say finishing second took the shine off it a wee bit but we were flying and played really well.“We had a few girls joins us halfway through the season and that really had a positive impact and helped the team kick on.”After winning 15 of their 18 games, and notching 100 goals in the process, Kilwinning will now move out of the regionalised league which will bring about both excitement and a few more headaches as they prepare for a new challenge. They’ll be taking on the likes of Airdrie, St Mirren and Bonnyrigg Rose amongst others when next season gets underway.Gaw added: “We knew it was the case that development teams couldn’t get promoted and maybe second would do it but I don’t think the league had previously been in that position so we weren’t quite sure what the case would be.

We were offered promotion and we did have a chat with the girls.“We’re in a national league now so there will be lots more travelling and it’s clubs and places we’re not used to visiting
