A 'much-loved' mum-of-two has celebrated her 108th birthday as loved ones joined her for a surprise tea party. Hilda Waterhouse has survived two World Wars, lived under five monarchs and seen 23 Prime Ministers serve the country.

She is the toast of Halecroft Grange care home in Hale, Trafford, after marking her latest birthday. It's a milestone which makes her the 60th oldest woman in Britain.

Hilda was born on July 1, 1915, in Altrincham - almost a year on from the start of the First World War. She married her husband Charles in 1939 at St George’s Church in Altrincham.
