Wigan has elected a Labour MP for more than 100 years. But something about Sir Keir Starmer’s new government is causing disquiet.

A decision to scrap winter fuel allowance for millions has sparked a storm. Until recently they had been paid to all pensioners to help with heating bills through the colder months.

But in July, it was confirmed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves that more than 10 million pensioners would no longer receive the cash boost.

Instead, it would be reserved for only to those on low incomes who received certain benefits. On the streets of Wigan, the decision has been met with a mixed reaction when the Local Democracy Reporting Service asked the town's residents to assess Labour's first two months in Government.
