From scapegoat to salesman. Given the sheer scale of the unrelenting abuse Sam Lammers copped from the stands during his ill-fated Ibrox stint, he’s perhaps the last person the Rangers faithful would have expected to put a good word in as Robin Propper mulled a move to Govan.But, as it turns out, the Dutch flop has only good things to say about his time in Glasgow.

That’s quite the surprise given Lammers couldn’t get out of the place fast enough. As one of last year’s “marquee” recruits, the £3.5million Dutchman soon became the poster boy of Michael Beale’s disastrous summer transfer drive, with every loose touch and wayward shot met by a soundtrack of frustration from the scunnered Gers support.Offered an escape raft back to the Eredivisie, the 27-year-old didn’t hang about, joining Utrecht on loan before signing permanently for FC Twente over the summer.

Propper is now making a move in the opposite direction having agreed to become the latest member of yet another rebuild under Philippe Clement.Lammers was one of the first he sought out for a reference on Rangers.

But far from being put off by his brief Twente team-mate’s grim experience, the centre-back is confident he’ll soon have the punters’ ringing endorsement.“It is nice to see that a few big players have played here and made history,” he said after being quizzed on his knowledge of Gers’ Dutch links. “I talked to some of the players who already were here and played for Ranges.
