Some women could be at risk of losing parts of their income after HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) sent out an urgent letter. Roughly 210,000 individuals, mainly women, are being notified by HMRC that they could be owed a significant amount of money due to a state pension error.
The issue chiefly impacts women in their 60s and 70s who claimed Child Benefit between 1978 and 2000. Many of those affected did not have their National Insurance credits, known as Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) until 2010, transferred correctly.
This is due to the fact that some of those affected did not have their National Insurance Number included on their Child Benefit form which overall affected how much state pension they're currently receiving.
A spokesperson for the DWP stated: "The action we are taking now will correct historical underpayments made by successive governments.
