Kanayo Megwa is determined to hold down his place in the Airdrie starting line-up to keep impressing both his current gaffer and parent club Hibs. The versatile 19-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, joined the Diamonds on a season-long deal from the Premiership side in September to link up with fellow Hibees loanees Murray Aiken and Josh O’Connor. But Megwa – born in London to Nigerian parents – had to bide his time to get a debut, coming on as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at home to Ayr on October 11.Since then, he has started the last five league games and seems an impressive addition, looking very comfortable on the ball and capable of whipping in some wicked deliveries into the box.Now one of the first names on the team-sheet for Diamonds boss Rhys McCabe, he is keen to keep it up and catch the eye of his parent club.Megwa said: “Airdrie is a great club and they have given me a great experience so far.“The guys have all been great with me as well.

It helps me as well because part of my game I always wanted to work on is playing with the ball.“Hopefully I can make a good impression at Airdrie as well as Hibs.“The better we play, the better we do, the more eyes will see our games.“It is good to help the team in any way I can.

I have managed to get a few games at right-back and hopefully I can stay there.”Megwa produced another assured performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Arbroath, which helped put Airdrie into the play-off spots in the Championship. It also ended a run of four games without a win and Megwa is hoping they can kick on after this weekend’s break for SPFL Trust Trophy action. He said: “We thoroughly deserved the win
