A student who was left unable to walk, talk or eat after being struck by a cyclist has opened up about her difficult road to recovery.

Eleanor May Blackburn had not long enrolled at the University of Falmouth when she was hit by a cyclist while walking home from a lecture on November 19, 2015.

The 18-year-old was found unconscious by a passer-by who immediately called for an ambulance, Manchester Evening News reports.

On her arrival to hospital, doctors discovered she had a subdural haematoma, a life-threatening condition where blood builds up between the skull and the surface of the brain.
