The Green Brigade are urging Celtic fans to join them in singing the Irish ballad Grace before Saturday’s Scottish Premiership clash against Kilmarnock as a tribute to the people of Palestine. Many of the Parkhead legions have shown huge support for Palestine during their war with Israel and they even claimed it resulted in a ban by club chiefs earlier this season, although the Hoops hierarchy denied that was the sole reason.Celtic fans have earned praise across the globe for their unwavering support during the Middle East conflict end earlier this season Chilean club Deportivo Palestino launched a third kit in tribute to the Green Brigade.

And now the Celtic ultras group have issued a rallying call to fans ahead of Saturday’s game with a statement which read: “As the Gaza genocide continues shamefully unabated, we invite the Celtic support to join us in song to commemorate the 30,000 lives lost and the millions struggling on. 'Grace' is a song of love, hope, loss, pain, steadfastness, resistance and freedom.

Join us at the start of the match to pay tribute to the fearless people of Palestine.”Grace has become a popular song with Celtic fans in recent years.

It was written in 1985 by brothers Frank and Seán O’Meara and is about a woman Grace Gifford who, after the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland, married Joseph Plunkett shortly before he faced a firing squad at Kilmainham Gaol in 1916.Celtic-daft Rod Stewart claimed in 2018 that the BBC stopped him from Grace because of it’s ‘anti-English overtones’, although the broadcaster denied that.
