The Great British Bake Off is going 'back to basics' after bosses were flooded with complaints about the series last year. The thirteenth season of the beloved Channel 4 series, which saw Syabira Yusoff crowned winner, saw fans lose interest in the challenges while others complained that the show had “lost its identity”.Fans complained the challenges were too difficult after contestants were tasked with creating a Halloween lantern that had to be a piñata, 3D biscuit masks and the “mission impossible” time constraints.

One insider told The Mirror: “There is a realisation last year’s show didn’t really work. We’re going to strip it back to basics, with a few twists.” This comes after the boss of Love Productions, which is the creators behind the show, insisted he would be listening to fans and take on board their concerns.

TV boss Richard McKerrow said the team would work hard to put things right for series 14, which will start filming later this year.“I’d be the first to hold up our hands and say I feel the last series was not our strongest,” he admitted in The Media Podcast.“You’ve got to take a look and go, ‘Sh*t, are the challenges too complicated?’.

We’re looking very, very, very hard at making sure it’s as good a series as it can be.”A production company boss said they were 'looking very, very, very hard at making sure it’s as good a series as it can be'. Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith enjoys open top bus tour of Glasgow
