Gogglebox favourites Pete and Sophie Sandiford have been a staple of the show since 2017, amusing viewers every episode with their take on the week's best TV.The Blackpool-based siblings are one of the most-loved families by fans, and Pete is known for his particularly witty comments about what he's watching on telly, or what's happening in his personal life.

Recently he told Sophie how his wife, Paige, was 'doing his head' in over preparations for their daughter's birthday party. But for any viewers wondering where their brilliant sense of humour comes from, the mystery has been solved.

It turns out the brother and sister duo are related to comedy royalty. Their uncle is none other than Paul Elliot, the brother of the late Barry Elliot, who has been subtly hinting at the family connection for years by sharing adorable snaps of his niece and nephew on Twitter.

Paul tweeted a throwback photo from 2018 with Pete and Sophie, captioning it: "This day 2018 with my great niece and nephew @PeteandSophie #Gogglebox." A fan quickly made the connection, replying: "THAT'S why they're so funny!" Paul also shared another heartwarming picture featuring his wife Sue, Pete and Sophie, and their half-sister Lucy during a lovely family lunch.
