Gartcairn beat Irvine Meadow as boss hails strong away day performance

Mick Dunlop hailed his Gartcairn side for a strong away performance as they did the double over Irvine Meadow with a 4-1 win in Ayrshire on Friday night.Doubles from Darren Smith and Mark McGuigan saw the Airdrie side cruise to victory, taking a 3-1 lead into the interval.The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but when ‘Medda’ asked for a Friday night fixture, the Airdrie club were happy to oblige.That left them eighth in the Premier Division table ahead of the other weekend fixtures, and Dunlop is pleased with the form his side are now showing after a sticky start to life in the top flight.He said: “We played really well, started really well, got two or three goals up early doors.“We were in control of the game then got a wee bit slack for probably 10 or 15 minutes, they came back into it a wee bit, scored a goal from a set-piece, and then they put us under pressure for a wee bit after that.“But we just saw it out and the last maybe five minutes or 10 minutes of the first half we came back into it again and had another two really good chances to extend our lead before half-time.“In the second half we managed the game well, I don’t really think they caused us any real problems.“We got a goal, maybe should have had another one or two.“But overall it was a really good away performance.

You go down to these places it’s not easy to take your victories.“But I think that’s us got seven wins out of the last eight we’ve had, so we’re on a really good run of form and I’m delighted.“Irvine Meadow asked us to play the game on Friday night and, to be fair, we quite like the Friday night games.“It’s good if you get the victory, and it also allows you to go and watch other games on a Saturday, which is not always the case.“On
