Smoke was sent billowing over Heywood yesterday after a fire broke out at a garage. The blaze erupted at Baba's Hand Car Wash and Tyres on Bury Street shortly after 7pm on Saturday evening.

Pictures and videos from the scene showed flames lapping up around a pile of tyres which were on fire. Thick black smoke was seen rising above the busy road and could be seen several miles away.

Three fire engines rushed to the scene with crews donning breathing apparatus and using jets as they tackled the blaze. They were on the scene for around an hour.
