A gutted family has told how they missed the ENTIRE Ayr Show due to parking chaos – after a three and a half hour drive from Stonehaven.Wendy Stephen, 64, journeyed down from the north east with her husband and her family to catch the Saturday aircraft displays – including the Red Arrows. But scenes of mayhem at the huge Ayr Racecourse park and ride forced them out to Greenan Shore in nearby Doonfoot – where they were unable to see any of the planes. The seasoned air show enthusiasts had been to similar displays at Leuchars and previous great days at Ayr pre-Covid.But they have branded their latest air show experience as a “horrible day out,” after they had planned ahead and booked a parking slot.Wendy told Ayrshire Live: “It was a terrible day, there was nothing to enjoy because we never got to see any of the planes.

I know no one has set up a horrible day for me and my family but that is what it turned out to be.“To travel all the way from Stonehaven and see nothing, is a huge disappointment.

We’ve been to loads of air shows in the past. We’ve been to Leuchars and previous ones in Ayr.“But we’ve never seen anything like that, it was just chaos, the traffic was horrendous.”The group, who took two cars down, paid £10 for the park and ride organised by council chiefs ahead of the event. The park and ride at Ayr Racecourse was supposed to guarantee a spot and a chance to take a bus down to the Low Green and the epicentre of the festival. But Wendy has described the car park as a free for all, with just two workers manning the entrance – as thousands of motors tried to pile in on a single track road.Wendy said: “When we got there the place was completely overwhelmed.
