Family of murdered teen plead for her killer to be kept behind bars

The family of a murdered teenager have pled to keep her killer behind bars, ahead of his parole hearing later this month. On the anniversary of her death, Michelle Stewart’s loved ones have ramped up their plea to not let murderer John Wilson be released from prison back into Ayrshire.Michelle was stabbed to death by Wilson on November 14, 2008, in the streets of Drongan, just moments away from her home.

She was just 17-years-old.Michelle’s family have campaigned for years under Michelle’s Law to keep Wilson behind bars and ensure victim’s voices are heard and taken into consideration throughout the parole hearing process.Part of Michelle’s Law looks at implementing changes to legislation that allows offenders to be released back into the communities where they committed their crimes.This was prompted by the Stewart family’s anguish of bumping into Wilson when working or socialising if he is released.Wilson, who pleaded guilty to Michelle’s murder and was sentenced to a 12-year minimum jail sentence, was last denied parole on March 7 and is set to apply again at a hearing on November 27.Parole hearing minutes, requested by the Stewarts following March’s hearing, flagged that Wilson hadn’t undertaken domestic violence work in 14 years behind bars.A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson previously said that “a broad range of offence focused interventions are delivered by SPS across our establishments, designed to address individuals’ needs and risks.”Sister Lisa Stewart told the Post the family are keen to see Wilson refused parole again, but if released they hope he will not be released back into Ayrshire.She said: “We believe John Wilson (Sanken) will always be a danger to the public, especially women.“Once free he can
