Casemiro has finally broken into the Manchester United team and with that the Erik ten Hag rebuild can truly begin. However, from the moment Ten Hag landed he only had one name in his mind — Frenkie de Jong. Following what was, at times, a garishly public and very unsuccessful chase for his signature, De Jong stayed put and United had to bridge the gap one way or another.
Casemiro became a viable option as an alternative when United realised that Spanish giants Real Madrid were willing to play ball over his €60million switch.
