Dale Meeks has tragically died at the age of 47 and tributes to the beloved actor have already begun pouring in. Dale’s brother Philip said in a statement to PA media that the soap star had died of heart failure and that his "heart was broken" by the sudden and tragic news.
Another family member wrote on Facebook that there was "so much less to laugh about" after Dale's death. The star had appeared on TV just days before his death in a new role for ITV’s true crime drama The Hunt for Raoul Moat.
Dale depicted Raoul’s real life pal Rory Sutcliffe in the fictionalised version, which was met with positive reviews. Dale had first shot to fame in 1990 when he was cast alongside presenting duo Ant and Dec in BBC series Byker Grove.The late star played resident villain Greg - but was beloved by his co-stars behind the scenes.
Ant and Dec were among the first celebs to pay their respects to their late co-star and in a statement posted on their Twitter account they wrote: “he was the loveliest of guys, even though he was a Denton ‘burner’, the arch nemesis of the Byker ‘Grovers’!
