Edinburgh Fringe venue evacuated after gents toilets set on fire

Police have launched a probe after toilets were 'torched' at an Edinburgh Festival venue.The City Café on Blair Street was evacuated after black smoke was seen coming from one of the cubicles in the male loos.

Fire crews raced to the scene within minutes and quickly extinguished the blaze but staff have slammed those responsible warning that it "could have ended in tragedy".

There are no reported injuries. A man who is believed to have started the fire was seen sitting at the bar shortly before it broke out and police say their enquiries are ongoing.Assistant manager of the venue Karolina Stalica told Edinburgh Live: "This couple came in at around 11.30pm on August 13, and very casually ordered some cocktails before they decided to use the restrooms."At 12.01am the fire alarm went off, one of the performers and one of our own staff members that was in the toilet noticed black smoke coming out of one the cubicles.

They started trying to get the fire out with the extinguisher."Karolina quickly evacuated the building and fire crews were at the scene within minutes.
