Millions of people will receive a Christmas bonus payment from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) ahead of the festive period.
The one-off £10 payment has been paid out for around than 50 years after it was first established in 1972. To get the cash you do not need to claim and will be paid automatically as long as you claim one of the eligible benefits during the 'qualifying week' which is usually the start of December.
If you are married, or live with your partner, you will each receive the payment if you both get one of the qualifying benefits. An online petition launched in October 2023 by Sharon McMahon has now received nearly 17,000 signatures as people air their frustrations over the 'stagnant' benefit.
