Duncan Scott insists better will come after Team GB suffered relay frustration on the opening night of the Olympic swimming.
The Scots’ king of the pool - Britain’s most decorated Olympic swimmer of all time - was hoping to add a seventh gong to his ever expanding list in the 4x100m freestyle relay final.
Alongside Tom Dean, Jacob Whittle and Matt Richards the foursome were hotly tipped to clinch a podium spot. But despite making up ground on the final leg Scott couldn’t do enough to get near the USA who stormed to gold led by Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel in a thunderous atmosphere inside the raucous La Defense Arena.
The British quartet reached the wall in fifth spot, 2.33 seconds behind the States with Australia taking silver and Italy bronze.
