Harry was educated at Wetherby School, Ludgrove School, and Eton College. He spent parts of his gap year in Australia and Lesotho. He then underwent officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a cornet (second lieutenant) into the Blues and Royals, serving temporarily with his brother Prince William, and he completed his training as a troop leader. In 2007–08, he served for over ten weeks in Helmand, Afghanistan, but was pulled out after an Australian magazine revealed his presence there. He returned to Afghanistan for a 20-week deployment in 2012–13 with the Army Air Corps. He left the army in June 2015.

Despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle choosing to quit being working royals in 2020, it doesn't necessarily mean their children Archie and Lilibet will grow up feeling the same disdain towards the royal way of life.The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who now live in the US, were furious about media intrusion and frustrated that Buckingham Palace thwarted their development of the SussexRoyal brand.

Harry remained a prince, and the pair kept their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, but they are no longer referred to as his/her royal highness (HRH).

Harry also relinquished his military titles and no longer wears army uniform in public. When Charles was crowned King in May this year, the couple's children became Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.

Mirror Royal editor Russell Myers suggested at the time the youngsters' new status could leave the door open for them both to take on a role within the Royal Family later in life.
