Details unveiled for free festival that lets you inside Ayrshire's hidden gems

Organisers behind this year’s Doors Open Days Ayrshire have promised another month of fascinating visits to some of the region’s most iconic and important buildings.Doors Open Days is the annual celebration of places and stories, new and old.Throughout Scotland and throughout September, hundreds of buildings will be open free for visitors to take a look inside.It is arranged by the Scottish Civic Trust.In Ayrshire, it is co-ordinated by volunteers from Kyle and Carrick Civic Society, who pioneered the event with Glasgow in 1990.Michael Hitchon, co-ordinator, Doors Open Days Ayrshire and President of Kyle and Carrick Civic Society, said: “There are brochures in all Ayrshire libraries showing details of days and times when the venues plan to be open over the weekend of Saturday 14 and/or Sunday, September 15.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all the local news in your area – plus features, football news and the latest on the coronavirus crisis – at your fingertips 24/7.The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories while you can customise your page with the sections that matter to you.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now on iOS and Android.“Some venues, where space is limited, will need booking.

One venue is opening over the weekend of Saturday, August 31/Sunday, September 1 it is Auchinleck House, the finest rescue of a category-A listed building from a ruin, and now a successful holiday let that sleeps 13!“In East, North and South Ayrshire there are towers offering magnificent panoramic views on a good day: the National Burns Memorial Tower, Mauchline; Kilwinning Abbey Tower Heritage Centre; and the Tower of St John the Baptist, Ayr.
