A decapitated White Fronted Goose has been found dead in a plastic bag after being shot near a Scots river. The discovery was made on the banks of River Thurso in Halkirk, Caithness, at 2.30pm on January 30.
Officers were called to recover the bird and confirmed it was found with its head, wings and feet severed from its body. An investigation has been launched into the death of the animal, which is protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.Local wildlife crime officer Police Constable Thomas Staples said, “The White Fronted Goose is a protected species under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, and it is illegal to kill them.
