The Dalbeattie Civic Daze chairman has paid tribute to the “unbelievable” support from townspeople following a hugely successful event on Saturday.

And Jim Dingwall put on record his thanks to everybody who contributed to making Civic Day another one for the memory banks.

He told the News: “It just seems to keep on improving year by year. “The weather was not so good as last year but somebody must be looking down on us because the rain went off half an hour before the parade started. “The streets were lined with people and we are super proud of how we get so much support from Dalbeattie. “We had put a letter out pointing out the cost of putting on Civic Daze and the response we got in donations from businesses and individuals, in terms of cash, sponsorship or raffle prizes, was just over £6,500, which is unbelievable. “Every single member of the committee could not believe how much support was shown. “We were all amazed – it was absolutely fantastic. “Long may it go from strength to strength.” Crowds thronged the streets for the parade up High Street to Colliston Park where hundreds enjoyed an afternoon and evening of entertainment, music and fun, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display.

Dalbeattie Pipes and Drums, Jedburgh Pipe Band the Absurdist Pipe Band, Stunt World International and the Balletbox Dancers added to sense of occasion while Civic Queen Rowan Brown was on hand to perform her traditional duties.
