Coronation Street's Andy Whyment clapped back at a troll who criticised him for splashing out on a £40k motor. The actor, famed for portraying Kirk Sutherland, took to Instagram to reply to a user who criticised him for not buying a luxury vehicle.

Andy chose to buy a turbocharged sportage GT line Kia with 10,000 annual mileage, instead of a luxury model. Upon sharing a snap of his new wheels, one troll commented: "I'd of thought with all your money you'd of had a decent car!" The 43 year old soap star answered: "Kia's are a decent car, and I don't earn as much as you probably think I do." Supportive fans rushed to defend his choice, with one enthusing: "Congrats!

Andy you will love this, it's an awesome car!!" Another added: "Lovely car, Kia make good cars, enjoy it you deserve it." His high end purchase comes after we revealed that Andy had recently signed a large six figure salary to remain on the cobbles for the foreseeable future, having already played the character of Kirk Sutherland for an incredible 21 years.

An ITV source told The Sun: "Andy just loves Corrie. It is in his blood and he never wants to go anywhere else. Lots of other actors get itchy feet and want to go on to do other stuff and some think they want to star in 'higher quality' telly. "But for Andrew, there is no higher-quality telly.
