Coronation Street star Thelma Barlow, 95, is set to return to the screen as she comes out of retirement almost 30 years after leaving the ITV soap.The actress is best known for playing Mavis Wilton in Coronation Street from 1971 to 1997 where she appeared opposite Barbara Knox (Rita Sullivan) and Peter Baldwin (Derek Wilton).The last time Thelma acted was in the film, Florence Foster Jenkins, in 2016 where Meryl Streep played the titular character.Thelma played Mrs.
Oscar Garmunder before retiring from acting. However, Thelma will now star in a short film Sleepless in Settle which follows a mother trying to find a wife for her son.
Speaking about filming, the beloved actress said: "It was three action-packed days. It took me right back to my early days of rep theatre." While filming for the new project, Thelma was reunited with her Dinner Ladies co-star Judy Lynn - who wrote and directed the short film.
Explaining how the role in the short film came about, Judy said: "We met again at her 90th birthday party and I asked if I could write something specifically for her and she agreed. "Filming with Thelma was a total joy.
