Community concerns about a busy road in the Spateston area of Johnstone are set to be heard by Renfrewshire Council. The local authority has agreed to carry out a review of traffic problems which have affected Hallhill Road for some time.

It comes as Councillor Iain McMillan, the Labour group leader, said the council needed to move away from “piecemeal reactions” and find a more comprehensive solution for the area.

The veteran Johnstone South and Elderslie rep said the proximity of Spateston early learning and childcare centre, St Anthony’s and Fordbank primary schools, new housing and the shops has contributed to a build up of vehicles.

Councillor McMillan said: “If you add that all in, you realise it’s a bit of a problem.” He acknowledged officers have visited Spateston a number of times – and welcomed work to paint the car park next to the pub, which he said has helped the situation.
