Claudia Winkleman admits she's 'terrified' fans won't like The Traitors series 2

Claudia Winkleman has dug out her hooded cloak for series two of The Traitors – the BBC One reality show that became a runaway success in 2022.

But after winning two Baftas and legions of fans, the Strictly Come Dancing star is worried the returning show won’t meet viewers’ high expectations. “I’m terrified people won’t like it as much as series one,” she says. “But that’s normal, right?” The show takes a group of strangers to a castle in the Scottish Highlands to compete for a cash prize, splitting them into Traitors – who can secretly eliminate opponents – and Faithfuls – who have to identify the Traitors and banish them at nightly round tables.

With this year’s contestants swotting up on the show, Claudia reveals we can expect an “extremely tense” game. “There’s one round table when I came out shaking,” she says. “They come having seen the first series, so are more quick to suspect but they all play a brilliant game,” she adds. “But however prepared you think you are, you’re not.” Claudia reveals that there’s a big change to the castle in the new series – the armoury, which allowed certain players to win immunity, is no more. “I think I’m allowed to say the armoury has gone and now there’s a kitchen,” she says. “The missions this year are epic.The producers are so clever as the missions are incredibly important.The scale this year is beyond.” As for which team she’s rooting for this year, Claudia can’t help but embrace both her light and dark sides. “It’s a really strange thing.
