Netflix’s Monster as notorious serial killer Ed Gein.The announcement was made by series creator Ryan Murphy onstage during a promotional event for season two of the show, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents (via Variety).

Season two will debut on Netflix this Thursday (September 19).Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch star in the new season as Lyle and Erik Menendez, while Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny will play their parents – you can see the trailer below.Series one, meanwhile, focussed on the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and received critical acclaim for the performances of Evan Peters as Dahmer (who won a Golden Globe for his role) and Niecey Nash (who won an Emmy) as Glenda Cleveland.

The series was one of Netflix’s biggest ratings hits in its English language section, with season one clocking up more than 1.35billion hours in audience views in its first month alone (per Variety).Hunnam will take on the role of Gein who became notorious not only for being a serial killer, but for digging up graves and making items and clothing from human remains.

It has been reported that elements of Gain were used to inspire characters like Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and Buffalo Bill in Silence Of The Lambs.This is the second newly announced role for Hunnam this year after it was revealed back in May that he’d be starring in Amazon’s new Criminal series.Hunnam is best known for starring in Sons Of Anarchy, in which he has played Jackson “Jax” Teller for seven seasons.He has also appeared in Undeclared and Queer As Folk on television, while in films his credits include Pacific Rim, The Gentlemen, True History Of The Kelly Gang, Rebel Moon and The Lost City Of Z..
