Chappell Roan is one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts in the music industry right now and she took over Governor’s Ball with an incredible performance this weekend.
The 26-year-old singer dressed up as the Statue of Liberty to perform at the music festival on Sunday (June 9) at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York City. Chappell gave an emotional speech about “freedom” during the set and she’s also going viral for further comments she made on social media. Keep reading to find out more… Chappell noted that she was dressed “in drag” as the “biggest queen of them all” and she read a quote featured on the statue, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.” She added, “That means freedom in trans rights, that means freedom in women’s rights…and it especially means freedom for all oppressed people in occupied territories.” During the set, Chappell debuted her brand new song “Subway” for the first time.
