Punters heading to the game posted on social media over a heavy police presence which greeted Celtic supporters on arrival at the Stadio Olimpico and it didn't take long for temperatures to rise between the Champions League Group E rivals.
The away Celtic fans were sitting ducks as they came under fire with pyro but a flare chucked back in the opposite direction was spotted inside the iconic arena in the heart of Rome.
It's set to spark more fines for two clubs who have been high up on the UEFA hitlist with the Premiership champions suffering punishments in excess of £65,000 over the years.
