At least three people are dead after a fire broke out in a hospital near Rome last night. Flames erupted in the ground floor of the emergency room at the San Giovanni Evangelista (St.

John the Evangelist) hospital in Tivoli at around 11pm yesterday.The terrifying fire then spread to other wards with smoke engulfing “everywhere”, chief prosecutor Francesco Menditto has said.

Justice chiefs have now opened an investigation for multiple manslaughter and negligent fire.Almost 200 patients had to be evacuated by emergency services at the smoke-filled building.

The three people who sadly passed away were elderly patients, Italian news agency Ansa has reported. One of them was in A&E while the two others were being treated on different hospital wards.
