Bomb squad swoop on house in Airdrie as chemicals discovered in police search

Bomb squads swooped on a house after chemicals were discovered inside. Residents in a quiet cul-de-sac in Airdrie were left shocked after police, firefighters and an explosive ordnance disposal unit (EOD) descended on the property on Friday night.

The house at the centre of the probe in Goldenacre Place, Plains, has been under police guard for several days with officers stationed at the front and back doors.

A search of the house uncovered chemicals, which were disposed of by bomb squads. Police said there was no risk to the wider public but enquiries remained ongoing.A resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Record: "There were police everywhere, they arrived on Friday and stayed the whole weekend.

There were firefighters and a bomb disposal unit eventually arrived, nobody knew what was going on."Police stood at the front and back door of the house the whole weekend."Another neighbour said: "The bomb disposal units brought in a robot-looking thing at the property.
