Actor Timothy Spall has been praised for his performance in the new BBC drama The Sixth Commandment. The 66-year-old portrays murder victim Peter Farquhar, a former Manchester Grammar School teacher, in the four-part series, which is based on a true story described as "one of the most complex and confounding criminal cases in recent memory".

Peter and his neighbour Ann Moore-Martin were found dead in the village of Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire in 2015 and 2017 respectively.

Peter and Ann, who had both worked in education and were deeply religious, were manipulated and eventually killed by a student called Ben Field.

He met Farquhar at the University of Buckingham and afterwards began to target both him and Ann with what the BBC describes as "extreme gaslighting".
