Strictly Come Dancing viewers were quick to pick up on a 'low-key iconic' moment just minutes into the first live show of the series.

It was a spectacular night on Saturday (September 21) in the ballroom as all 15 new couples performed for the first time. The BBC One dance competition has returned for its 20th anniversary series amid an investigation launched by the corporation following allegations made about former professional dancer Giovanni Pernice by his 2023 celebrity dance partner Amanda Abbington.

But it didn't stop the sparkles from dripping throughout the Strictly ballroom as week one kicked off with a routine from the professional dancers, who dressed in colourful outfits and danced an array of flamenco, cha cha, paso doble and salsa moves to a medley of songs before Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman arrived to welcome the judges and the Strictly stars to the ballroom. The 34-year-old Welsh dancer, who missed out on having a celebrity partner because of her breast cancer treatment last year, was awarded 31 points from the judges for her waltz to When I Need You by singer Leo Sayer with JLS member JB Gill.
