A fresh crop of hopefuls are cooking up plans to be crowned the new champion of BBC Masterchef when it returns to screens tonight.And in the midst of the first round of contestants who’ll be pitting their wits and culinary skills against each other is Muir, 53, from Scotland.

Born in Turriff, the children’s mental health service manager grew up in Banff and Perth but now lives in West Yorkshire with her 13-year-old daughter and their wee pooch Millie.

Speaking ahead of the launch of the 20th series of the iconic BBC show, Muir revealed she was inspired to develop her passion for cooking by her auntie’s tasty leek and tattie soup.Muir said: “I helped mum out with cooking and we baked a lot when I was growing up.

I started to get interested in cooking when I left home at 18 and my aunt Una taught me how to make lentil soup and leek and tattie soup.”Describing her cooking style as “eclectic” Muir hopes to impress judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace enough to keep her place for the next eight weeks as they embark on their latest challenge to find the UK’s best amateur cook, one plate at a time.Muir went on: “My cooking style is eclectic.
