Angela Rayner owes no capital gains tax for the sale of her former Stockport council house and no further action will be taken, an HM Revenue and Customs document has confirmed.
Questions had been raised about whether Ms Rayner owed tax on the former council house she sold in 2015 - before she became MP for Ashton and whether the property was her main home for electoral purposes.
The tax authority has now said it has considered the evidence and concluded the house in Stockport was the Labour deputy leader’s principal residence the whole time she owned it, meaning no tax would be due, the Guardian reports. On Tuesday (May 28) Greater Manchester Police confirmed Ms Rayner would face no further action from them over claims she wrongly declared her permanent address on the electoral register, which would have been a criminal offence.
