Locals living near the Pilsworth South Landfill site, situated next to the M66 between Bury and Heywood, have described the smells emanating from the site as 'awful' and like 'sticking your head in a bag of rotten meat'.
The stench has also hit residents in Darnhill, Summit, Heady Hill, and Heap Bridge in Rochdale, who have also been vocal about the 'horrendous' smell, with some even reporting feeling physically sick.
