Work has begun on a major £33.6m project on a main route in Stockport. Contractors have started work on site around the A34 corridor, also known as the Wilmslow-Handforth bypass, which runs from the junction of the M60 motorway to the A555 - serving Gatley, Cheadle and Heald Green.
The government announced the investment in November last year, saying the route was regularly hit by traffic jams and bottlenecks.
The work is set to tackle congestion and reduce local journey times, particularly to Manchester Airport, and is also expected to generate more than £72m in direct economic benefits for Greater Manchester and Stockport.
