Tom Heaton showcased his similarities to Andre Onana in more ways than one against Borussia Dortmund. The Manchester United goalkeeper department has undergone an overhaul this summer through the departure of club hero David De Gea and the subsequent arrival of Onana.
Meanwhile, Heaton has extended his second spell at the club for another year, starting three pre-season games for Erik ten Hag’s side.
The United boss has been clear about his expectation for goalkeepers to build up from the back during his time at Old Trafford, drafting in his former Ajax number one.
In his first appearance against Real Madrid, Onana took up a notable position on the halfway line during the team’s set piece, showing his eagerness to keep United in the attacking third.
