Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden has shared that tonight's first live performance since her return to the show will be "beautiful for my family".The 34 year old revealed to PA news agency that her celeb partner, JLS singer JB Gill, has made the 20th anniversary series of the BBC dance show the "perfect comeback" after her battle with breast cancer.
Amy was diagnosed in May 2023 when she discovered a lump the day before her honeymoon, causing her to miss out on partnering with a celebrity in that year's Strictly series.
In February, she announced her return to the show this year, following a mastectomy and chemotherapy which left her with "no evidence of disease" after tests.
Speaking about her return to training and performing live, she told PA: "I'm absolutely loving it, JB's been the perfect comeback for me." She added, "I'm just back in my happy place doing what I love most." Reflecting on the emotional significance of her return, she said, "I think it's going to be just really lovely (today), because it's going to be beautiful for my family, because they struggled just as much as I did having to watch me go through it." She admitted that last year's Strictly was difficult for them to watch as it reminded them of their shared struggle.
