VAR drama reigned supreme at Pittodrie on the verge of half-time as Aberdeen thought they'd opened the scoring before offside confusion ensued. The home side had the ball in the back of the net through an own-goal from St Johnstone's former Don Andy Considine and Duk wheeled away to take the plaudits, though replays quickly confirmed it was an OG.
But whistler David Munro put the celebrations on pause when he put his hand to his ear for a VAR review, which the screens at Pittodrie indicated was for offside.Standard practice for offside reviews is for the officials in the VAR room to make the call themselves and inform the on-field referee whether it was offside or not.
That's because while fouls and hand-balls are subjective, offside decisions are black and white...or so they are supposed to be.
Munro though was called over by VAR Kevin Clancy to have a look at the replay. After a several minutes' delay, Munro then overturned the goal and handed St Johnstone a free-kick instead.
