70 mph winds to batter parts of Scotland amid yellow weather warning - regions affected
dailyrecord.co.ukThe Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning, as gales are expected to blow through parts of Scotland this afternoon. Previously issued a yellow rain warning for the west, some northerly Sccotish areas will see winds pick up speeds as high as 75mph.
A deep area of low pressure to the far north and northwest of Scotland will push active fronts across the UK on Friday, bringing strong winds to the Western isles before moving northwards, lasting until 3 pm.The strongest winds are likely to be the southerlies ahead of the front, with gusts of 65 to 70 mph in coastal parts and perhaps 75 mph around the Northern Isles.Forecasters report this will result in travel delays, with road, rail, air and ferry transport all likely to be affected.
Some coastal routes and communities, coastal communities will be hit by ocean by spray and/or large waves.Travellers are being urged to take precautions, especially those travelling by road.
Heavy rains, paired with cooling temperatures are both risk factors for motorists.
